Joy in the Pain — Claire Morgan selected a title for our exhibition that sums up in a nutshell what her artistic work, her thinking, and her aesthetic ambition revolve around, namely, the ambiguity of life and death, of human and animal nature, of pleasure and pain, of beauty and violence: “I have always been concerned with what we are as humans: our animality and mortality, and how we place ourselves in relation to other animals and our surroundings,” says Morgan. It is the precarious equilibrium of a world whose complexity often enough overwhelms us, that touches us with its beauty, and that at the same time makes us aware with brutal violence that we cannot escape our transience.
Claire Morgan (*1980 in Belfast /Northern Ireland) lives and works in Gateshead/Great Britain. She studied art at the University of Northumbria, UK. Since 2003, the artist has been developing a body of work consisting of installations, sculptures and drawings, which she continues to develop further. Her work has been shown in numerous group and solo exhibitions in Europe, the USA, in Asia and Australia.
